Dawn Hurwitz
Born in Chicago and left home at 16 to find deeper purpose in life. Ended up in Los Angeles to live with the notorious Source Family Commune, traveling back and forth from LA to Hawaii to San Francisco and back to Hawaii, and finally returning to Chicago in 1979. After ten years of revisiting Chicago and fulfilling a dream to be a clothing and costume designer, she returned to settle in Hawaii.
“ I live the life others dream about. All of my adventures have taught me to seize the opportunities at hand, if you don’t go for what you want, no one is going to hand it to you.”
Dawn live’s in harmony with nature, resides on the Big Island of Hawaii property Avoland she shares with the love of her life, Stephen whom she met in England, another adventure planned to divulge in a future tale. She opened a metaphysical bookstore and cafe in an area called Puna (they call us Punatics), added an internet component, and after eleven years had called it quits. Dawn then became an Apple Tech helping people door to door for another fourteen years till at 60 years of age said enough.
With no work, she decided to take some writing classes. Encouraged by her peers to share her adventures, she has just completed and published her first memoir, “Psychedelic Wild Child, Coming of Age in The Source Family Cult{ure}. Learning to live the writer’s & publisher’s life. There will be two more volumes to recapture all of her adventures, and then who knows. “I still threaten to get my sewing machine tuned up and running. One thing I do know, I live by my intuition and could never live a life that anyone would possibly accuse me of being normal.
